SIMULAYT Limited, the specialised composites modeling software house today announced
that Terrafugia, Inc. (Woburn, MA) has selected its Advanced Fiber Modeler (AFM) for CATIA
V5 product.

The Advanced Fiber Modeler application is being used by the Terrafugia engineering team to
design and develop composite components for the Transition® Roadable Aircraft. Categorized
as a Light Sport Aircraft, the Transition® requires a Sport Pilot certificate to fly. It is a two-seat
aircraft designed to take off and land at local airports and drive on any road.

Ben Zelnick, Vehicle Engineer, Terrafugia, Inc. commented:

“Advanced Fiber Modeler is a great complement to our existing CATIA V5 Composites Design
solution. Being able to realistically model fiber orientations in our ply-by-ply laminate models
allows us to completely optimize our design by conducting accurate structural analyses, which is
invaluable in reducing the weight of the Transition. The accurate flat patterns from Advanced
Fiber Modeler save valuable time and material during manufacture.”

Dr John Klintworth, CEO of Simulayt commented

“We are very pleased that Terrafugia has selected our solution to create accurate design, analysis
and manufacturing information for its challenging applications. By modeling its designs and
undertaking appropriate simulations in the CATIA environment, Terrafugia can improve its
innovative designs at reduced time and cost.”

cmz20100406

Simulayt Limited today announced its new product, Composites Modeler for SolidWorks®, a tool allowing efficient composites design within the SolidWorks® environment. The new product provides proven fiber simulation capabilities, advanced ply-based model building and direct generation of analysis and manufacturing information. Composites Modeler brings the capability to develop high performance composite structures to the dynamic SolidWorks® community.

Ian Cowley, Technical Consultant at Simulayt, commented: “SolidWorks® users can now run proven fiber simulations to predict manufacturing problems and provide accurate flat pattern templates. The unambiguous ply based composites model and direct links to analysis provide essential tools for developing composites structures efficiently. Customers familiar with legacy solutions in other environments are astonished by the capability, accessibility and value of Composites Modeler for SolidWorks®.”

Composites Modeler integrates seamlessly into the SolidWorks® environment and allows engineers to predict the manufacturing process to ensure that the designed model is manufacturable. Continuously-varying material angles reflecting the actual as-laid fiber orientations can be transferred automatically to finite element analysis for verification. Finally, manufacturing data is generated automatically to ensure that the design is realized accurately.

Simulayt announces a new finite element based fiber simulation for complex fabric architectures

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Simulayt Limited today announces a new finite element based fiber simulation for complex fabrics. This extends the existing capabilities of its Advanced Fiber Modeler (AFM) for CATIA product to model multi-axial fiber architectures, knitted fabrics, core materials and other commonly-used materials not covered by existing Uniaxial or Biaxial simulations. The new simulation can also handle complex cutout shapes often encountered on intricate components using these materials. This additional capability is available to all existing AFM users.

John Klintworth, CEO of Simulayt, commented:

“Our customers are using increasingly sophisticated fiber architectures in order to improve process efficiency and reduce costs. They need to simulate the process and generate analysis and manufacturing data for these novel procedures within existing toolsets. This capability shows our commitment to providing advanced fiber simulations meeting industrial requirements and delivered seamlessly to end users within the familiar environment of the CATIA Composites Workbench.“

Simulayt’s Advanced Fiber Modeler is completely integrated within the CATIA Composites Workbench. All input data and results are stored in CATIA and can be utilized within CATIA or exported to specialist analysis tools via Simulayt’s Composites Link.

Simulayt selects SIMULIA as its worldwide reseller of Composites Modeler for Abaqus/CAE

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

SIMULAYT Limited, the specialized composites modeling software house, today announced that it has appointed SIMULIA, the Dassault Systèmes brand for realistic simulation, as the worldwide reseller of its Composites Modeler for Abaqus/CAE.

“We are delighted to have SIMULIA as our reseller for Composites Modeler for Abaqus/CAE. This is a natural extension of the strong technical partnership that we’ve developed with SIMULIA as we’ve worked closely with them to bring additional advanced composites modelling and analysis capabilities to Abaqus/CAE users”, stated Dr John Klintworth, CEO of Simulayt. ”SIMULIA’s technical sales and support teams have significant composites experience, so we’re confident that Composites Modeler users will be in good hands. Additionally, SIMULIA provides an extensive, well respected global sales channel that will enable us to extend our reach into the European, American, and Asia Pacific markets to deliver advanced composites capabilities to Abaqus/CAE users in the automotive, aerospace, and other industries.”

“Expanding our partnership with Simulayt to become their worldwide reseller of Composites Modeler for Abaqus/CAE will enable SIMULIA to provide an even stronger product offering to the advanced composites market and bring greater value to our customers,” noted Ken Short, VP Strategy and Marketing at SIMULIA. “Many of our customers are already benefiting from the tight integration of Abaqus FEA and Composites Modeler to model and analyze advanced composites materials. Now our customers will be able to get complete service, from sales to technical support, for both products directly from SIMULIA, leading to greater efficiency in their design analysis and business operations.”

Composites Modeler for Abaqus/CAE
